Charleston, I love you | 007: Harper Poe

What brought you to Charleston?
I was living in NYC for four years and was ready for a break from the hustle and bustle and Charleston is the only other city on the East Coast that I was interested in living, so voila.

What do you love most about Charleston?
Biking.

What's your favorite spot in Charleston?
Narrow streets South of Broad Street.

What's your favorite restaurant in Charleston?
Butcher & Bee.

How did you discover your passion for textiles?
Traveling through South America I became infatuated with brightly colored, indigenous textiles.  Textiles tell the story of a culture better than any other medium.

What's a typical day like for you?
Yoga, coffee (or coffee, yoga), too much time in front of the computer, wasting time on Instagram, packing orders,

bike ride, scrounge up a meal (I'm an awful cook), wine, porch sitting, and more computer time.

How does Charleston influence your work?
I feel like Charleston is very well juxtaposed... the old and new, gritty and refined. I also try and find just the right balance with Proud Mary between ethnic and on-trend, refined and rugged. It feels right to ride that line.

A standout Charleston memory?
Late night ocean swims.

Describe Charleston in three words:
Steamy, charming, comfortable.

Boy olivia, Charleston just seems like magic. I can’t wait for summer-it’s still winter on our side of the world. raining, and i’m stuck in bed with karen dalton. which isn’t so bad i guess.

  2. These posts make me pretty much desperate to visit Charleston. It’s on my list.

  3. such a talented lady, love proud mary textiles.

  4. The backdrops in these photos are so natural and beautiful! I love the blue shutters against white, the red house contrasted against her leopard print blouse, and the streaks of light splashed across the beige wall. Marvelous!
