This time of year means I get to see my entire family on both sides and my heart feels full. It means an elegant party on Christmas Eve (complete with a rowdy sing-a-long) and Nan Nan's Mexican wedding cookies. It means thousands of candles, fancy cheese spreads, and homemade spiked eggnog. It means invaluable time with my childhood friends and sitting around the dinner table for hours after we've finished eating, as my uncle makes us die laughing. I love this time of year.
If I didn't already think Charleston was the most charming place in the universe, December in Charleston would be what convinced me.
The mixture of palm trees with Christmas trees, apple cider with tacos, and short sleeves while gift shopping is all too perfect. I never get tired of wandering around South of Broad, admiring the lovely decorations and the flowers, still in bloom. I feel so lucky to call this place home.
