Having a friend in Vienna made the city feel extra special, as she showed us the spots we never would have found on our own; trendy bars in art galleries, ethereal cathedrals, tucked-away pubs with 300 different beers, and the never-ending Naschmarkt.

Trying to process so many new places at the end of a three-month trip is nearly impossible, as days start to melt together, details are forgotten and faces begin to blur. But what stands out in my mind about Vienna is the constant cloudy sky combatted by warm glowing lights from every shop, storefront, cafe and cathedral in sight. Despite the grayness, Vienna seemed to glow.

While in Vienna searching for breakfast, Melissa and I stumbled upon the cutest family-run cafe.

I loved that they served coffee in dainty china and that you could taste the butter in the flaky pastry. I loved that the family lived upstairs, and that the woman baked, the son waited tables, and the man sat in a back booth twirling his mustache and reading the newspaper. This place was the real deal.
