dreaming of greece.

After my freshman year of college, I decided on a whim to study abroad in Greece. This was unfortunately during my pre-blog life, so as much as some things -- songs, smells, foods, feelings - transport me straight back to Greece, I have to make a conscious effort to remember certain details that I desperately wish I had written down at the time.

last day in greece, hiking
greece - donkey rides on cliffs in santorini

Details like the quiet moments of breathless awe upon reaching the top of a cliff, the feeling of being constantly encapsulated by dry heat and dust after hours on archaeological sites, the excitement of staying out all night in new towns and the consequent appreciation of nap time, afternoons spent lounging on dolphin-shaped paddle boats and swimming in the middle of the Aegean sea, that one time I hopped on the back of a complete stranger's moped in the middle of the night and was sure I wouldn't make it back alive...

greece - magical
greece - santorini
greece - columns & colliseums

Apart from clinging to these sacred memories, what I remember without hesitation is how content I was. I allowed myself to savor every single moment, because I was living solely in the present -- something I normally find hard to do.

In other words, happy tears were a common occurrence and I slept well every night.

Greece is magical.
